We are running apache 2.4.34 on Gentoo as well, with DBDriver mysql and ssl
module. But I was wrong with the ordering of the module loads. Try loading the
ssl module AFTER the dbd modules.

No, for us (2.4.34) moving loading mod_ssl very on top did _NOT_ solve it. Same
segfault.

could you try moving the mod_ssl loading before the mod_auth* modules? To my
understanding that should "fix" the problem.

We have a similar issue at
https://bugs.gentoo.org/666406
with the difference that it has NOT to do with mod_md (we are not using it).
We can confirm "our" bug with apache 2.4.33 and

The minimal backtrace shows where exactly the crash in openssl 1.0.2 happens:

I agree that something seems strange, which normally indicates that there is a
hidden variable which we are not aware of yet.
In your backtrace attached here, I read:

Still this only happens when mod_authn_dbd is used. A different server uses the
exact same config, just without the Virtualhost that states "DBDriver mysql",
and has been running without a segfault

Correction, you load mod_dbd after, mod_authn_dbd ist still before. What
happens if you place mod_authn_dbd after? Thanks.
