I tried virt for disk and network. This still hangs. I tried AHCI which also
hangs. As you mentioned vmware workstation is now free, I will try that next.
None of my linux VirtualBox vms had trouble.

Console log of AHCI disk and vert network hanging. This is with openbox and a
serial console telneted in to:

I did try virtio but I don't recall the result. I will retry and let you know.
I added a serial console a VirtualBox machine and switched to it at boot>.
Below is a log you asked for of the hang I get with an e1000, 4GB of ram, 100gb
IDE disk 4 processors.

Have you tried virtio network instead of e1000? Also, it would be helpful
if you could somehow post the full console output from the boot, either by
redirecting it to a serial console, or if it does not hang all the time by
doing dmesg via ssh.

I am attaching a screenshot of a hang booting 7.5. After a successful install
I rebooted and this is a typical hang.

Trying to install openbsd 7.5 and 7.4 under Version 7.0.20 r163906 (Qt5.15.2)
on intel machine the install hangs or it hangs during boot after the install.
I am attaching a specy report of the machine configuration.

I have used openbsd for over a decade on real hardware and virtual machines in
vmware and virtual box. This is the first time I have run into hangs like this.

It often hangs during boot from install_75.iso or cd74.iso at the V4 IP after
picking autoconf for em0. If I change the hardware network adapter from m1000
desktop to m1000 server that part works and it gets further along.

With IDE set for the disk it sometimes gets incredibly slow trying to do any
disk access or setup the drivers for IDE. It can take 15min to get past the
IDE driver lines in the boot. Switching the disk to SCSI in the VirtualBox
config works better. But still hangs later on.

Are there any known VirtualBox issues? I don't have a current vmware license
to try that...

The two most common places to hang are at the V4 IP assignment when installing
or late in the boot after rebooting after the install. Not at the same place
but anywhere near the end of the boot.

Are there any VirtualBox openbsd appliances I could download to see if your
config works better?
