*Interview Mode: Telephonic Then Skype* Job Summary: *Cisco switch configuration, load balancing experience, and firewall design (ideally). * Under the direction of the Manager, the position will be responsible for design, configuration, installation, and support of the Knowledge Universe local area (LAN) and wide area (WAN) networks, composed of a domestic data center and corporate campus in Portland, over 1700 remote field sites and over 500 remote mobile users. Essential Functions: Plans, designs and implements local and wide-area network solutions between multiple platforms and protocols Proactively administer the network using performance monitoring tools and alerts Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians Coordinates installation of such items as *routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers* Initiate actions to prevent recurrence of faults through root cause analysis, user education and training Work with telecom service providers to resolve end user network issues Create and maintain up-to-date documentation of network design, operation and procedures manuals Assist with proposal writing, cost analysis and vendor comparisons Conducts tests of network redundancy, resilience and failover network elements to ensure up-time standards are fully achieved.
