I charge $150 for a wedding and $50 more if alcohol is served.

I did this trip in 2008 and it was truly the most memorable of my life. We
danced 15 of the 30 nights we were there with local dancers. It's a great
way to see NZ and actually meet the natives.

I think it went fine, but I just wanted
to toss it out that there are those who "prefer" the balance. Sort of like
Delphiniums and Daisies - most people call that one with a Partner B but
it was written without the balance. So the "folk process" may be tweeking

Speaking as a dancer here and not a caller, I enjoy a square now and then
but I really don't like it when the caller calls two squares back to back.
If I sat out the first one, that generally means I have to sit out the next
one too. The last time that happened in our community, one of the dancers

highlights all the different ways to go down the hall. I think there is a
wide enough variety in these dances that it could be doable without boring
the dancers.

Hello Bob - Can you elaborate on the A1 in Criss Cross Heys? I don't
understand "pass thru R." If it's becket and the circle L is all the way
around, then you're passing through across the set, yes? Are you passing
thru on the right diagonal? Sorry to be dense ;-)

that alphabetically it is
the adjacent dance in my spreadsheet! I know the same dances get written
by different people, but thought that was just a weird coincidence!!

First let it be said that the frat guy who came up with the idea thought the
pledges would find it fun, not humiliating. His idea was that they would
LIKE contra and want to keep coming. Why would it be humiliating to join in
a group where there are others dressed in the same way and doing the
young people doing it!
I love the "ants-pants-contra dance" idea! We'll use that on campus!
One thing that I am very pleased about is that our dances are now truly
inter-generational. We have children through seniors and everyone dances
with everyone.

Hi all - I'm considering a wireless headset mic. It sure would be nice to
have hands free when demonstrating, teaching the introductory workshop. But
I don't see many callers using them. Is there a downside to this that I'm
not seeing, or is it just the expense? And if someone could recommend
HI all - I'm a fairly new caller and so far have only called improper duple,
beckett, and 4x4. Where does one learn to call these other options? I
haven't even ventured into squares because I don't know how to call them and
don't know where to learn. I bought Nils and Ralph's book, but just
In regards to unwelcome behavior at a dance, our community has a middle-aged
man who zeros in on the (very thin) young women (we're a college town), and
lifts them off the floor, swings them around, drops their heads towards the
floor, etc. I watched him drop a first-time dancer, TWICE in one
I have settled on using Google Docs spreadsheet to manage my dances. For
the most part, it works really well. The only limitation I've encountered
is I can't search the entire document, only one tab at a time. Each tab is
a different dance and I have a format for entering the dance and the
approach and will allow sharing of documents, photos, etc.
