When I first started calling, I despaired when I heard experienced callers
say I must memorize my dances! I couldn't imagine keeping the order of
each dance straight in my mind! But now that I've been calling a couple of
years, I find that there are a few dances I know by heart and that there

the early days I did sound and often played in the band for his 4th
Friday dance in North Whitefield, ME, so I got to see him close up..
Ted ALWAYS used cards but I KNEW he new the dances he called from
Some callers call from handwritten cards; some let the computer print their
cards; some call from tablets; some call from memory. It truly doesn't
matter as much as you might think. What matters is whether the caller is
focused more on reading the card/tablet/memory or reading the dancers.
