I just acquired (in a shrewd business deal) a cannibalized Busch 23. I have a complete, mint condition version of the same camera so the following questions are somewhat philosophical rather than driven by sheer necessity:
The Busch 23 has the standard Busch spring type back. I have a spare Graflex 23 Graflok back. Unlike the Graflex 23, the Busch 23 bellows end is fastened to a stamped metal subframe. The Busch spring back components are attached to this subframe. In the Graflex 23, the bellows end is fastened to a subframe within the body. Question #1: I am considering mounting the Graflok frame over the stripped Busch subframe so that the bellows arrangement is not disturbed. This will move the focal plane back something like 3/64" of an inch. Has anyone converted the Busch 23 back to Graflok? Am I on the right track or am I opening a can of worms? Is there another way to do this? Question #2: The Busch 23 is missing the rangefinder and control arm for the rangefinder. I am considering using a cut-down cable release to actuate a rangefinder. Has anyone used a cable release for this purpose? What are the problems? Any better suggestions for a control arm? Question #3: I have a Wide Field 80mm Ektar mounted into a standard Graflex shutter I propose to use on this camera. Is anyone on the list familiar with this lens? Any problems for 6 x 9? Comments? Suggestions? All recommendations gratefully accepted.
