Hi Dr. Klein,

The Van Essen Lab has a tutorial showing how to register Freesurfer generated surfaces to the Van Essen macaque atlas. The same process could be applied to the human colin atlas. See the link to Caret User's Guide and Tutorial Part 2 at http://brainmap.wustl.edu/caret.

The applicable tutorial is #11:

REGISTRATION OF FREESURFER MAPS TO MACAQUE ATLAS MAPS USING CARET
PART I. FreeSurfer to Caret file conversion
PART II. FLATTENING AND SPHERICAL MORPHING
PART III. DRAWING LANDMARKS FOR REGISTRATION WITH ATLAS
PART IV. Registration of new data sets to atlas left or right hemispheres

This tutorial describes how to take FreeSurfer-generated surface maps and associated fMRI data from individual hemispheres and register (deform) these maps to a surface-based atlas generated in Caret. ... The atlas data set is from a surface-based atlas (Macaque.F99UA1) generated in the Van Essen lab and includes cortical areas, connectivity patterns, etc. ... Once the surface-based registration process is finished, data can be mapped in either direction (e.g., from the atlas to the individual, and vice versa).

David Van Essen has used Caret's mapper to map functional/activation data to surfaces imported from Freesurfer, but this requires steps to align the volume and surface grids which are not documented.

I suppose it would be possible to generate surfaces in SureFit; somehow import the resulting surface to Freesurfer; and map/register in Freesurfer, but I'm not aware of anyone who has done so.

Other posts to this thread also would be of interest to the SureFit mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Thanks,

Hi Johannes,

sorry, we don't have anything for converting from one to the other, but I think David Van Essen might, as I gave him and Heather Drury our surface formats some years ago for this purpose. There was also a poster at HBM comparing the two packages by a group at the NIH, so they might have tools for doing so.

Sorry.

Bruce

Hi everyone,
has anybody successfully converted surfaces and activation data between
Freesurfer and SureFit? Does that work reasonably well?
Thanks
Johannes
