thank you for your reply, I very much appreciated it. For future reference
to other users, I've noticed that in order to get the table of
correspondences between the values in the saved volume and the regions, one
must add 2 to the values reported in the ifh file, so for instance:

region names                       := 13 Brodmann.17
region names                       := 14 Brodmann.26

means that BA 17 has value 15 and BA has value 16 in the volume created by
Caret.
