CAS supports SAML1.1 and SAML2. The SAML2 support specifically targeted Google Apps support, but it has been used to integrate with all other applications. YMMV. CAS 4.3 presently in dev presents support for SAML2 Web SSO/SLO Browser-POST profile. CAS can also act as a bridge between RPs and the Shibboleth IdP delegating authentication entirely, or it can be used a portal to allow the user to select that delegation.
The Shibboleth Idp as a SAML reference implementation also supports the full capacity of the CAS protocol. I can share my experience with the latter one: - It supports SAML 2.0. - Not limited to Google, any IdP in general. - I have tested it with Shibboleth and it works just fine for me. As for the CAS-SAML plugin, the last time I checked the documentation, it said it was somewhat limited to SAML 1.1 and SAML 2.0 for Google only. But it might have changed since then… Maybe someone from the development team can precise this.
