That's 18 links. Eight are dead links. Three have seen updates in 2012-2013, of
those only two are > version 1.0. Essentially two active, mature projects, from
a community boasting 1000+ modules.

It strikes me that perl or perhaps specifically Catalyst developers are
building and releasing tools over "applications".

IMHO, the Catalyst community really needs more open source applications to
generate outside interest. Am I alone in thinking this? I've been eagerly
watching the ShinyCMS project.

Open Blog - OpenDNS dead link

Typeface - Japanese wordpress link farm (apparently)

Angerwhale - Link to a page with two lines of French and no code.

Telemetry - Links to a page with a link to a "Page not found".

MojoMojo - Hurray! A real project, at v1.10.

ShinyCMS - I'm optimistic on this project. Go, Denny! I suspect more developers
will contribute once the project is closer to a 1.0 release?

Website in a Box - Version 0.02 from Sept 2007.

EasyCMS2 - Last update v 0.27 in 2007, no links to the actual code.

SheepWool - Dead link.

Bio::Catalyst - Link to pages with no reference to the code. Couldn't find it
on metacpan either.

Handel - version 1.00014 released in December 2011, no activity. Handel is a
framework used by the Mango ecommerce app.

Mango - version 0.01000_13 released in 2008.

Parley - version 1.2.1, released 2009.

Foorum - version 1.001, released in 2009.

CiderWebmail - version 1.04, released in June2012.

GalleryCatWeb - version 0.01, updated in 2010.

App-CamelPKI - Broken link, but I was able to find it with manual MetaCPAN
search. Version 0.07 from 2008.

FileZ - Dead link.

I didn't say it was a _good_ list. :-p

I think people are building plenty of applications inside commercial
environments, but not many that are publicly released. People seem to
use Catalyst to solve big and quite company-specific problems, rather
than medium-sized generic problems.

Thanks :) Feel free to join in!

> I suspect more developers will contribute once the project is closer

That would be nice. I'm not sure that Perl developers are particularly
scared of 0.x releases though... I feel it's more a lack of interest in
solving those medium-sized generic problems.

I have a designer pledged to build me a set of front-end templates for
the demo site, which I think is one thing that's essential before I
bundle up a 0.9 pre-release for people to look at. The other thing I
wanted to do was finish the shop order processing stuff, but the client
paying some of the development costs for that has pulled out, which has
slowed things down considerably.

Once I get those two things done, I'll beg and possibly even bribe a few
people to look over the code and docs and maybe do some QA, and then
hopefully it will be ready for a shiny 1.0 version number. :)

Denny

I think there's two streams to this thread.

Are there good existing open source projects that can serve as decent examples
of how a good Catalyst application looks?

Why is the website so out of date?

As for the former, there's not a lot of people actively maintaining the site.
We probably have more content there then we can rationally manage given our
current contributorship.  I do hope we can come together and find a way to have
a smaller and more streamlined site, but right now I personally don't have time
for it, and the time I do have I'd rather put into development of new
capacities, such as the websockets and evented stuff we are doing for the next
release, and so forth.  That shouldn't stop someone else from stepping up
though and I'd be happy to help out if such a person of group did.

We have been trying to put together more examples of Catalyst code, and you if
look at the catalyst github org (https://github.com/perl-catalyst/) things are
starting to show up there.  It will take time to get more quality there but I
think it will happen.

And yes, I think most people using Catalyst are building custom website
applications for companies, stuff that doesn't have easily broken out bits like
generic CMSs and so forth.  I think most people using Catalyst prefer to craft
code to a solution rather than take an existing tool, like a CMS or generic
blogging tool and bend it to fit a business case.

I agree, and is exactly how I use Catalyst. I tailor all the applications to
the companies needs on an Ad-Hoc basis.

Richard,

Any thoughts on the best way to start getting the wiki under control?  Some
ideas I have heard ranged from editting the existing, to making a new copy of
the wiki on a new tool, like under the github org for catalyst, and cleaning
that up.

Thoughts?

I couldn't find anywhere on the site that invites people to join in with
the maintenance. It could do with an obvious sign up page (even if it
