Hi all,
I just wanted to extend a personal invitation to all CayugaBirders to check out
this year's Migration Celebration event at the Cornell Lab or Ornithology --
Saturday May 14, between 10 AM and 3 PM. As one of hundreds of events
throughout the Western Hemisphere to celebrate International
Just before sunset I added a MAGNOLIA WARBLER. Hoping for more
warblers ahead, as many of the fruit trees are just now coming into
flower. Expecting Cuckoos any day now! Might get one tonight for the
price of going outside to listen (if only the toads would shut up! -

Wow. I was hoping that with all the activity in nearby Sapsucker Woods, I would
get at least a trickle of warblers in my yard -- but no. A few migrants have
stopped by, including a "che-beking" LEAST FLYCATCHER, briefly singing SCARLET
TANAGER and RED-EYED VIREO, and 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS un
I walked the Wilson Trail after work. I didn't find many of the great birds
reported today, but did see my first R.T. HUMMINGBIRD and ALDER FLYCATCHER
calling just before the first house on the curve with the crazy stop sign.

I spent a bit of time out on the Wilson Trail North this morning, and will add
a singing TENNESSEE WARBLER to the day's warbler list at Sapsucker Woods. I'll
also note that this species, like most of our North American "Vermivora"s, is
now actually in the genus Oreothlypis. (Sorry, Chris.)

As expected at this peak time, many birders were out in Sapsucker Woods
today, each finding a slightly different mix of species. The cumulative
warbler tally for the day is 18+ species, several of which I missed.

Overnight, there was clearly a heavy movement of Vermivoras, as evidenced by
the abundance of that genera at the Hawthorn Orchard this morning.
Vermivoras were still in movement well into the morning (warblers still
flying well above tree-top height, producing "seet" flight notes).
