Fifteen enthusiastic birders joined me for the Cayuga Bird Club field
trip today. As promised, we drove up the east side of the lake and
Montezuma. It was very windy along the lake and much of Montezuma, but
we had a great day of birding. Some of the highlights:
Myers Point - Common Goldeneye, Red
Was up to Sodus Point from noon to 2 PM Saturday, at the pier and lighthouse
museum overlook. About a hundred common mergansers in a "feeding frenzy", 5
white-winged scoters, a couple small groups of bufflehead, several long-tailed
ducks, assortment of gulls (gbb, ring-billed, herring, bonaparte
Based on Jay's excellent photo, this bird is clearly different from the late
Baltimore Oriole that I reported from the same location in late October -- I
took my bird to be an adult female.
