A single Pine Siskin joined the 40+ American Goldfinches at my feeders this
afternoon. He's been fiercely defending a perch on the nyjer feeder.

At Stewart Park this afternoon about 2:15pm I found a monstrous white immature GLAUCOUS GULL on the ice, the only unusual bird I could pick out among the RING-BILLED, HERRING, and GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS. It was alternately resting and bullying the Herring Gulls.I also traipsed around in Fuertes
South of Auburn on Silver Street Rd. near the Fleming/Scipio Townline Rd.: two
apparently separate flocks of Horned Larks (roughly 10 in each) were scavenging
whatever is available at the roadside scraped up by recent plows; also an
unidentified sparrow among them (small, like a Savannah
Adult. Best seen from East Shore now.

About begging birds, in Ocala National Forest campgrounds Boat-tailed (I think
that was what they were) grackles and Red-bellied Woodpeckers waited for hand
outs and eat tid bits fallen around. A red-bellied loved to eat cheese crackers
and wait for my colleagues to offer him the crackers, if
Susie I happened upon a largish flock of SNOW BUNTINGS, with a few HORNED
LARKS, and 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR along Irish Settlement Rd., between Rt. 13 and
Ferguson Rd. just to the west of Dryden this morning. They were pretty
flighty.
Also, along Elm St. Extension, east of Groton, were 3 HORNED
Several years ago, a raucous Steller's Jay flew through a sitting area in
Muir's Woods (Redwoods), north of San Francisco, and swiped an entire ice cream
cone from my hand !
