July 16 , 2012

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     7/24: A CURLEW SANDPIPER was spotted in Knox-Marsellus Marsh from East 
Road. It was relocated on the 25th. and 26th. but has not been reported since. 
Also seen were SANDHILL CRANE and a WILSON’S PHALAROPE.
     7/25: A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen along the first part of 
Towpath Road in the marsh. It wwas seen again on the 27th. and the 29th. but 
has not been reported since.
     7/26: A WILSON’S PHALAROPE and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were seen in 
Knox-marsellus marsh. Other highlights were LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER and 
SANDERLING.
     7/28: An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen in Knox-Marsellus Marsh but 
shortly took flight to the north.
     In all 13 species of Shorebirds were seen, mostly at Knox-Marsellus Marsh, 
this week.


Oswego County
------------

     7/25: A SANDWICH TERN was found at Sandy Pond on a sand bar near Carl 
Island. It was relocated on the 29th. No report today yet.


Onondaga County
------------

     7/26: 7 species of Shorebird were found in a wet area along New Seneca 
Turnpike near Skaneateles. A COMMON and a RED-THROATED LOON were seen on 
Onondaga Lake. The Red-throated Loon may be injured.


Herkimer County
------------

     7/27A GLOSSY IBIS and 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen at a wet area on McKoon 
Road off of Rt.28 south of Mohawk. The Ibis was seen again on the 29th.


Jefferson County
------------

     7/24: A BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK was seen again at Northern Marina 
near Clayton.
