Hi all,
I was planning on taking a walk on East Ithaca recreation way till Game Farm
Road, but at the last moment decided, I will go to Hawthorn. So I entered from
North-western side, where there was a PILEATED WOODPECKER banging on tree and
making his presence known.
Then I came across a chic
Nice photo. As is appropriate for the location, this is a Swamp Sparrow.
I'm not sure why Swamp Sparrows seem so different, but they often are hard to
identify. I presume that if one has normal color vision the rusty wings and
rump would stand out, but they don't for me, so I never look for

I think it is a Swamp Sparrow in non-breeding plumage. Clive Byers book shows
slight yellow on the supercilium for non-breeding adult. Bird is very rufous on
the back.

Nice photo. I think it looks like a white throated sparrow , judging from the
faint yellow lores, stripes on head and streaky back. I'm curious to hear what
others think.
