Hi all,
Eric Sibbald and I are headed up to the Montezuma area today, and we would like
to see Upland Sandpipers. I understand that the fairgrounds where
they're seen reliably is restricted access. Does anyone know how I can
go about obtaining permission? Is there a number I can call? Please
Ralph Lott Farms are what I call the Seneca County Fairgrounds.

I always get an answering machine; ask permission, leave my name and # with a
description of the vehicle I will be driving. They have been very generous in
giving people access.

The Lott Farm on the NE corner of NYS-414 and Martin Rd (aka Airport Rd) south
of Seneca Falls (Martin Rd is the Seneca Falls - Fayette town line) is private,
although the Empire State Farm Days event is held there for a few days late
each summer. There is another fairgrounds in Seneca Falls,
Monk Parakeets
Meg and I were treated to a great view of these birds, flying in tandem and
adding to their large nest.

I visited the Monk Parakeet pair in Hector late this afternoon after first
stopping at May's Point Rd South to view the Red-headed Woodpeckers. At both
stops the birds put on a quite a show. What beautiful colors the Parakeets
have...especially their incredible greens!

TMI on Seneca Falls and fairgrounds: There actually /is/ something
called the Seneca County Fairgrounds, but they have nothing to do with
the Lott Farms and in fact are in Waterloo, on the north edge of the
village off Swift Street. Every year the Seneca County Fair is held
there in mid-July.
