"New York State Young Birders Club" Chemung Valley Audubon Society meets on October 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the West End Room at Appleridge, 168 Miller St., Horseheads. All are welcome to attend to learn about local birds, the society's projects, and how to become involved. Appleridge is wheelchair accessible. Online viewing by Zoom is also available with a request to windingwayho...@aol.com. A 7:00 p.m. Bird Identification Workshop by Bill Ostrander is followed by a brief business meeting at 7:30. Adam Vinson, a sophomore at Cornell University, will present "New York State Young Birders Club," which is a special project of the New York State Ornithological Association (NYSOA). Hear about Adam's experiences traveling throughout the state on birding adventures, and learn about the structure of this club founded and directed by young people on a mission to learn about birds. Adam Vinson was president of the Young Birders Club and a recipient of NYSOA's Lillian C. Stoner Award to promote a lifelong interest in ornithology. He has worked with the Saltmarsh Habitat and Avian Research Program in New Jersey, studying marsh birds. In addition to his studies at Cornell, he works with the American Bird Conservancy and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Chemung Valley Audubon events are free and open to all. One of 27 chapters in New York State, its purpose is to encourage the study, enjoyment, and protection of birds and other wildlife, and to promote educational lectures, programs, and field trips.
