Hey all,
Just a quick note to mention my best bird from an otherwise quiet lakewatch
at Myers Point this morning was a months-early COMMON GOLDENEYE which flew
by distantly heading north up the west side of the lake, then back south
again a little closer (presumably the same bird) half an hour later. I saw
a medium-sized, compact dark duck with large white wing patches in the
secondaries (and beyond), too compact for a merganser or White-winged
Scoter. On its way south I got a better look at the face and it did indeed
appear to be a goldeneye. Very strange.

Also, on Monday I had an early PALM WARBLER along the new Lansing Center
Trail on Rt. 34 between Triphammer and East Shore Drive. This is kind of a
cool place, pretty open and agricultural feeling, but with enough goldenrod
and hedgerows to be interesting. Feels like a Connecticut Warbler or
Dickcissel could show up, and it's a great place for fall Palm Warblers for
sure.

Good birding,
Jay
