May 22
Sunday
7:00 A.M. meeting at the Lab of Ornithology, until about noon (back at the Lab
of O by 12:30ish)
Field Trip: Griggs Gulf State Forest, near Harford Mills
Leader: Tony Lombardino
Meet: Laura Stenzler will meet people at the Lab of Ornithology at 7:00 A.M. to
car pool to the start of the walk.

Tony will lead a full morning walk through this amazing mature forest of almost
2400 acres. He has been birding here for 20 years and knows it quite well.
Tony writes: "I've been there perhaps 30 or 40 times over the last year, and it
has become my favorite birding spot in the area. I was thinking it would be
fun to "show it off" this spring, as I've yet to meet another birder there. If
last year's pattern holds, I can pretty much guarantee breeding Mourning,
Canada, and Hooded warblers, ravens, Golden-crowned Kinglets and a dozen other
species of warbler. There were also breeding Red-shouldered Hawks,
Broad-winged Hawks, and Barred owls." Need we say more? IF you would like to
meet us at 7:30 A.M. at the State Forest instead of 7 A.M. at the Lab of
Ornithology, Take Rte 38 south from Dryden, to Rte 200, then onto Griggs Gulf
Rd. The road is called Griggs Gulf Road (appropriately), and it is signed
where it comes right off of Route 200 which is the road off of Route 38 leading
into Harford Mills. The parking lot where we should meet is exactly 1.4 miles
from the intersection of Route 200 and Griggs Gulf Road. You can't miss it, and
Tony will be there waiting. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring water, bug spray
and a hat.
