Hi all, I spent an hour in the Hawthorn Orchard today. It was very quiet except for a few species. South-end had a few Nashville Warblers and a Meadowlark singing. Somewhere in the middle of the orchard there was a new arrival - Common Yellowthroat and then there were three Rose-breasted Grosbeaks singing one male was looking like a female but much paler, I think he was a male and I don't know if the adult females also sing.
Catbirds are exceptionally quiet except for some gurgling sounds. Why? Are they females we are seeing and males have not arrived yet or they are just quiet because they still do not have hormonal rush?
