Hi Birders,

I noticed a few people having luck spotting the Red-headed Woodpecker from
Lakeshore Road in Lansing. This is a safe, quiet street to pull over and
listen/look. As this is my neighborhood, I did want to alert you that yesterday
I moved a teeny tiny hatchling Painted Turtle off of Lakeshore Road. Every
spring they hatch alongside the road and try to move across it, which every
spring results in casualties (one day last year I found as many as 5). If you
come to look for the woodpecker, please be on the lookout for any suspicious
"gravel" that is round and smooth, and investigate it for baby turtle. The one
I found yesterday was about the size of a quarter. Those of us who live and
walk along this street appreciate your hypervigilant gaze for baby turtles in
the road (it's very safe to stop and move them, I do it all the time).

Also please note that Wilderness Road is a private road.

Happy Spring,
Robyn Bailey
