While doing odonate surveys today we had a lovely run of seldom seens. At Tschache we had 2 each of Virginia rail, Dora and Least Bittern. Counted a minimum of 20 Black Tern individuals including three newly fledged birds. Later at the Sandhill Crane unit we had an American Bittern fly across Van

Birding with Jim Tarolli, first stop was the Rte 31 mucklands where many (~1500) gulls were present, about 50-50 Herring and Ring-billed. We found a 2nd-cycle Iceland and adult Lesser BB Gull. Not a lot of geese at that moment, ie, few Canadas and no Snows. Little species diversity in the

I missed the Whimbrel again and found little at the Visitor Center or Wildlife Drive spot. Over at Tschache Pool the highlight was a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, many DUNLIN, many peeps, and a good number of SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER. This was between ~3:30 - 6:00pm David Wheeler.
