A friend in Lansing, on East Shore Circle, saw a male hummingbird on Tuesday
evening. It was looking for the feeder which, of course, hadn't been put out
yet. It seems way too early for hummingbirds.

Last two days a Ruby-throated Hummingbird female has started visiting my
garden. Yesterday I saw her on burdock flowers today I saw her cardinal
flowers. She spent approximately five minutes at the cardinal flowers.

Pat and I have noticed that too: the newly-arrived male hummer visits the

A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird came and hovered near my face yesterday
afternoon (Wood Road, Freeville), zipped over to where I had a feeder
last year and left in disappointment. I quickly hung a second feeder in
that spot but have seen or heard no sign of the bird since. It's

Hooray!
This makes me feel perfectly vindicated for buying a fuchsia last week!
Filled with hope and anticipation, I put out a feeder this morning.

This morning I had the privilege to watch a female RTHumminbird work very
carefully and thoroughly among Common Witch-Hazel flowers. She even sat on a
branch for a few moments, to take advantage of several flowers clustered close
together. We have lived here for exactly 30 years, and I have alwa
To my surprise this afternoon, while out in my back garden during a
brief sunny spell, a female ruby-throat appeared on my late-blooming
pineapple sage plant. And there I'd been so cross with the plant for
blooming so late this year. Thank goodness it provided some much needed

I was a little surprised to see a Ruby-throated Hummingbird at my feeder
as it was getting dark this evening. Pretty late date for them up here on
the mountain.
