John Confer's email about their big day reminded me I forgot to post my latest nest findings. While birding Saturday I found an Orchard Oriole nest at Salt Point; park at the "Y", looking straight down the road toward the lake from the car there is a big Cottonwood tree on the right and another one just beyond it on the same side. The second Cottonwood has a branch that hangs out over the road almost above the power pole , the nest is in the leaves near the tip of this branch. Saturday morning was also good thermal soaring for large birds. Within the span of a few minutes I had above my head one adult Bald Eagle, four Osprey together and seven Turkey Vultures. At least one of the Osprey looked to be a juvenile , the breast had a distinct buffy area. Today while driving back from Aurora I noticed the fields where Dave, Ann, Stuart and I found a Grasshopper Sparrow, across from Long Point Winery, have been plowed and dragged. Hopefully the Sparrows moved to the other fields to build homes.
