A glorious chorus this morning: Carolina Wrens are back in my back yard after having been away for several months, calling incessantly since 8am. I heard one calling at a certain pitch and then it shifted to a half or whole-note higher while the other one listened. It made a second call too, which was a very different rhythm. Chickadees chasing each other and doing the tee-hoo sound. Several robins calling and chasing each other. Large flock, about 10 juncos. Jays and cardinals have also returned to my backyard after having been gone for about a month or so. All of these birds usually are daily birds among others in warmer seasons, but they do go away for several weeks at a time in winter, and it is always such a treat when they return! I had grackles here two years ago for months November 2014, not seen since.
