I'm in the Adirondack's and am amazed at the hundreds and hundreds of
Yellow-shafted Flickers I am seeing for the past two weeks. They are in
flocks of 5-12+ all over Essex and Franklin counties, feeding by road sides
through meadows and forests alike.

Are they small foraging groups, which reassemble into large groups for
their nocturnal migration?

With the dampness and sandy soil up here, there are always plenty of ants
to satiate them.
