Had a meeting between Syracuse and Utica this morning and then had
to teach a weather class in Ithaca at 7 pm...so to kill time I spent
from 130 to 630 pm today birding from Montezuma to Myer's.
For just 5 hours of birding, I totaled 95 species!! I did no birding
in any forested areas so my forest

Eric Lewis of Lyons reported being 3 ft from a Yellow Rail in central
Wayne County to Eaton Birding Society Facebook. No further details. I

After work I stopped by the Swan Pen to see if I could clean up on a
few of the great birds everyone has been seeing today. Four FORSTER'S TERNS,
one COMMON TERN were sitting on snags. Many BONAPARTE'S GULLS are still there
along with the continuing imm. ICELAND GULL which looked positiv
This evening about 6 pm, we saw an Osprey hovering over the pond near the
Tompkins County airport. It eventually flew over to the ponds on Niemi Rd and
hunted before flying off.

Before I left larues got a solitary sandpiper and wilsons snipe. Diversity

At noon on our hill I found a gorgeous male Baltimore Oriole singing in an
apple tree, and while thrilling to that I was stunned to hear right behind me
(in the spruce grove) the prolonged scolding of a Wood Thrush. (Confirmed this
with BirdTunes when I came in-- they call it "pit volleys"!)

While cruising the Severinghaus Trail at Sapsucker Woods around 9:30 today, I
heard my first of the year Baltimore Oriole singing, and later a Great Crested
Flycatcher calling.

A misty walk around my West Danby home produced an Ovenbird, Nashville Warbler,
Black-throated Green Warbler, Black and White Warblers, Louisiana Waterthrush,
Blue-headed Vireo, Hermit Thrush, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Broad-winged Hawk,
Barred Owls, Pine Siskin, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Ravens, etc
A Blue-winged Warbler was singing this morning near where one was on
territory last summer, at the eastern end of the Lansing Greenway that
connects Graham Road with the Northwood Apartments. Eastern Towhee and
House Wren were the other new arrivals that were also singing on territory
