Dr. Carolyn McMaster here, Just a note of caution for all you fellow birders. This is the season when ticks are most active. Even after it freezes, if it goes above freezing during the day, the ticks will be foraging for a blood meal. Only after continual hard frosts will they go dormant.

Their purpose is to control human beings by spreading the microbes that harm them! I take it back, actually it is the disease spreading spirochetes that control the ticks. Probably it is not good for the ticks too when the spirochetes are growing in them as they will be demanding nutrition

14 turkey vultures are roosting on trees between Penny Lane and the Second Dam of Six-Mile Creek. Haven't seen that here before. The surrounding passerines seem a little unsure about what to make of these big and somewhat-but-not-quite raptor-scarry-looking visitors. Suan _
