Re: [cayugabirds-l] Woodcock Peenting

2018-02-26 Thread psaracin
I read in "Bulls Birds of New York State (1998 edition) that
woodcock".among our earliest breeders, with males reported in display as
early as the last week in January and, commonly, by the last week of
February."(pg. 268) That being said, these reports could possibly be from other
(coastal?/southern?) N.Y. State.

Wow! The 31 year norm here, just about 2 miles and a bit higher than you, is
3/18 and the earliest was 3/8. Congrats Ken.

[cayugabirds-l] Rochester birding

2018-02-26 Thread marsha kardon
I'll be in Rochester in a couple of weeks meeting a friend from California
who is a beginner - intermediate birder. He will be recovering from
surgery so may not be up to birding many sites. I'm wondering if someone
familiar with the "birding hotspots" listed on the Rochester Bird Club
website and could suggest which ones might be most rewarding to visit
around March 10 - 13. Marsha Kardon

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Woodcock Peenting

2018-02-26 Thread Dave Nutter
Nancy Dickinson, when she lived a bit further down the hill in Mecklenburg,
regularly got the first of year Woodcock in February.

[cayugabirds-l] Woodcock on 2-22-18

2018-02-26 Thread Rick Bonney
We had our first Woodcock last Thursday the 22nd, the day of the snowstorm.
Technically we are a few hundred yards south of the basin in Newfield. This is
very early even for our location.
