[cayugabirds-l] Stewart Park Gulls
I made a brief stop at Stewart Park around 4:30. With all the Ring-billed, Herring and Great Blacked-backed Gulls there was one adult Lesser Black-backed Gull and one juvenile Iceland Gull at a nice not-to-far distance. [cayugabirds-l] Lab of O: New Program Feedback sessions
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to create a new citizen science project called The *YardMap Network*. This project invites the public to map their yards, sharing the habitat-types and conservation practices happening in yards and green spaces across the country. We are looking for *gardeners* and *birders* to participate in focus groups on Thursday March 11 from 4:00-6:00pm and Friday March 12 from 1:00-3:00pm & 4:30-6:30pm. Each participant will receive a $40 gift card for amazon.com. This is also a chance for you to provide important feedback to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Science Foundation. Focus groups will meet at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. If you are interested in participating, more detailed instructions will follow. Focus groups will be facilitated by Steve Yalowitz and Tammy Messick from the Institute for Learning Innovation (ILI), a partner on the project. If you are interested please contact Tammy Messick at *mess...@ilinet.org*. We are limited to 12 spots per time, and you will be contacted shortly after your email to confirm your spot. All RSVP’s must be received by noon on Monday, March 8. [cayugabirds-l] 3 bird related events in March at Sciencenter in Ithaca
I happened upon info on three upcoming bird related events at the Sciencenter in Ithaca: http://www.sciencenter.org/whatsnew/eventscalendar.asp 1)Showtime! Pollution and Bird Songs Saturday, March 6, 2 p.m. Can pollution change the way birds sing? Sara DeLeon of Cornell University will present how common song birds such as Black Capped Chickadees and Song Sparrows change their songs in response to pollution, specifically PCBs. 2)This one sounds like a bird related storytime story: Curiosity Corner Program for Our Youngest Visitors Early Childhood Programs in the Curiosity Corner are especially designed for toddlers and preschoolers. Storytime and Tactile Time are included with admission. Kids under three receive free admission. Storytime: Feathers for Lunch Tuesday, March 9, 10:30 a.m. Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to hear the story "Feathers for Lunch" by Lois Ehlert and make a feather collage to take home. -- 3)Showtime! [cayugabirds-l] Worms Again
I am re-sending this posting; apparently it did not go through 2/28/10 Several of our birds enjoy meal worms. Apparently there are differing forms of worms available, e.g. freeze dried, live, etc. I'm wondering how many choices there are and which are best choices and why. My main interest is to feed bluebirds and Carolina wrens.
