[cayugabirds-l] OOB Snow Geese
Saw at least 1000 Snows drop into a hill-top field on Rte 5 between Auburn and Elbridge this morning about 7. May have been more already settled but over the crest and thus out of sight. Had to pull over and enjoy them with bins for a couple minutes since I was out of the country when the masses were in the area early this month. Nice way to start my day. RE: [cayugabirds-l] Newman Golf Course Turkey Vultures
Late this afternoon, there were about 30 TURKEY VULTURES circling over their roost and preparing to descend for the night, in downtown Brooktondale. [cayugabirds-l] Northern Pintail at Sapsucker Woods
As first reported by Mary Winston earlier today, a drake Northern Pintail is hanging out on the pond at Sapsucker Woods this morning, just offshore from the Treman Bird Feeding Garden. The continuing pair of Hooded Mergansers were loafing nearby as well...have they been confirmed breeding here in the last few years? --Scott -- *Scott A. [cayugabirds-l] Common Teal, George Road
Although the pond is almost all frozen over again, a single EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL is with fewer than 20 American Green-winged Teal at the George Road pond in Dryden. This bird was not present any of the times I checked over the past week, so I'm not sure if it's the same individual or not. Certainly a different one than at Montezuma. [cayugabirds-l] Winter wren - Brooktondale
This morning I woke to my favorite sound of early spring, the exuberant, spilling song of a Winter Wren in the valley by my house, next to Shindagin Hollow State Forest. Six days later than I noted a winter wren's first arrival here last year.
