Re:[cayugabirds-l] CORRECTION; Cayuga Bird Club Meeting and Speaker Presentation
Third time's a charm. Suzanne Henderson reminded me to tell you all that cookies will be available by 7:15. Cookies and socializing. Come by then. You'll be glad you did. The meeting will start promptly at 7:30. See you there. Linda Orkin Hello All, I would like to extend a warm invitation to everyone to attend the November meeting of the Cayuga Bird Club at the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, Johnson Center , this upcoming Monday, Nov 14. The meeting starts at 7:30 PM with the speaker, Ton Schat, scheduled to speak at 8 PM. Ton and his wife Laura have experienced the incredible diversity of life in Australia over many extended visits to this continent and Ton will share wonderful photographs, insights and information about their experiences. It promises to be a special evening and we hope you all can attend. Our usual speaker dinner is canceled due to some schedule conflicts and we are all sorry we will not be able to socialize in this way with Ton and Laura. Please join us, all are encouraged to attend this evening activity, regardless of membership status. And of course, we always welcome new members, $15 per year is still a bargain to be a committed member of our special community. Thanks and hope to see you there. [cayugabirds-l] Myers Point 14Nov11
I watched the lake from the lighthouse at Myers Point for a couple of hours this morning. Nothing too remarkable (else I would have posted before now), but a few nice winter birds. The loon spectacle was pretty impressive, even with strong south winds, with many birds moving south (most low over the water) and a constantly changing pool of about 100 loons offshore on the water. Yesterday (13Nov11) doing the same watch I saw a RED-THROATED LOON flying south with a Common, but I saw none today. Other birds of note included a female WHITE-WINGED SCOTER flying south and then returning half an hour later to land in the Salt Point Bay, a flyover SNOW BUNTING that I later flushed from the spit, two DUNLIN on the spit, five lingering KILLDEER on the island in the creek, and a flyover WARBLER (probably BLACKPOLL). Lots of gulls around too, but I didn't find anything different. Very cool to see a Northern Shrike surveying our yard from atop a smallish tree, early this morning. Had a good long look at it. A yard first!
