November 28 , 2011

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     No reports this week.


Cayuga County
------------

     11/29: Two PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen at their usual location along the 
breakwall at Fairhaven State Park. By 12/3 the number had grown to three and 
all three were seen on 12/4 also.


Oneida County
------------

     11/30: At Sylvan Beach 3 BLACK SCOTERS, 3 SURF SCOTERS, 4 RED-NECKED 
GREBES, and a late OSPREY were found. At Fisher Bay, also on Oneida Lake, 16 
TUNDRA SWANS were seen.


Madison County
------------

     11/30: A first year ICELAND GULL was seen at the Madison County Landfill. 
It was again located on 12/2.
     12/4: An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and 2 first year ICELAND GULLS 
were seen at the Madison County Landfill.


Oswego County
------------

     12/5: 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen in the fields in back of the south 
lookout at Derby Hill.


Onondaga County
------------

     12/1: A bird, first tentatively identified as a YELOW -THROATED WARBLER 
was positively identified on 12/ 3. The location is the northern most end on 
the new Syracuse Creekwalk along Onondaga Creek where it ends at Onondaga Lake 
near Carousel Mall. The bird has been seen through today. It tends to hang 
around the railroad bridge in search of insects. Also seen here was a 
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and a late YELLOW WARBLER.
