Took the dog for a walk at dusk last night and was surprised to hear a Woodcock
performing its dance, which I hadn't heard since mid-March! Might they be
nesting a second time?
Also, later, the yard was a-twinkle with FIREFLIES! Thought I was seeing
things at first...seems way too early.
Daughter, Becky, saw her 1st fireflies last night 3.4 mi. east of Union Springs.

The past couple of mornings, the Hawthorn Orchard has been devoid of migrants.
It was unnervingly quiet today and yesterday. It certainly appears that most
migrants in the area have moved on and have not been replaced by anything new

in the NE corner (near the white house), saw a female BLACK-AND-WHITE

Blackpoll. Yesterday I had another Yellow-throated Vireo. Also watched a female
Scarlet Tanager gathering nest material. My yard-nesting Broad-winged Hawks are

Driving into Corning this afternoon at 2:45 pm on NY 352 near the Gibson
bridge, and I see what appeared to be a 3/4 size Belted Kingfisher running
across my lane with very fast steps. Large distinctive head, big beak, blue
color. Overall body configuration fit a Kingfisher.

We started from Lab of O, where a beautiful SPOTTED SANDPIPER, fed along the
p0ond shore while continuously bobbing its tail. At one point it stopped and
preened and scratched. Many of us enjoyed watching him up so close.
Then we headed straight to Green-Springs cemetery road. On the
