[cayugabirds-l] fledglings

2012-06-29 Thread Nancy W Dickinson
An exciting time of year! In the past two days I have observed the begging
fledglings of Phoebes, Grackles, Cardinals, Chickadees, and the defensive
parenting of Common Yellowthroats, Song Sparrows, Hairy Woodpeckers, Field
Sparrows, Towhees, and House Wrens. Still singing are Brown Thrashers,
Catbirds, Indigo Buntings, Robins, House Finches. The season isn't over. Keep
watching! Keep cool.

[cayugabirds-l] Orchard oriole, barn swallows, and meadowlarks

2012-06-29 Thread M & K Mannella

The ORCHARD ORIOLE (I assume the same one) that nested in our yard was back
this morning singing loudly from a large maple. In May he was actively
defending a nest then all went quiet. Not sure if there was a successful fledge
or not. Today is the first time I've seen or heard him since the first days of
June. What a nice surprise to hear his joyful song again!

BARN SWALLOWS are fledging as I type.at least one nest has seven heads
sticking out this morning.

And we have a MEADOWKARK in the general vicinity that I can hear from my yard.
That is a very rare event. Perhaps they like the army worms..

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Common Ravens

2012-06-29 Thread M & K Mannella
We've had a pair of ravens gronking since spring. Not sure if there was a nest
or not.

Re:[cayugabirds-l] CLO Woodcock update

2012-06-29 Thread Brad Walker
Whoops...the subject on that last email was a little off due to my phone's
auto correct. It should have read CLO Woodcock.

Anyways, the bird briefly flew from the shore further back onto the Wilson
Trail (closer to where the feeders are). It seemed rather tame and
approached within three or four feet of me.
