Greetings! This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 
June 25 , 2012
 
Highlights:

UPLAND SANDPIPER
STILT SANDPIPER
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER

RED-HEADED WOODPECKER
DICKCISSEL
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW



Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     7/3: 9 species of shorebirds including STILT SANDPIPER and SHORT-BILLED 
DOWITCHER were seen at Puddler’s Marsh on Towpath Road. Much the same group of 
birds were seen again on 7/7.


Oswego County
------------

     7/3: 2 UPLAND SANDPIPERS and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW  were found at the 
Oswego County airport.
     7/8: 18 species of birds including 6 Warblers were found at Otto Mills 
Road above Redfield.


Onondaga County
------------

     7/4: 6 species of shorebirds were found at a wet area along New Seneca 
Turnpike west of Lawrence Road near Skaneateles.
     7/6: 18 species of birds including a GREAT HORNED OWL were seen along the 
Butternut Creek Trail near the Dewitt Wegman’s.
     7/9: 2  adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen in a swamp on Fenner Road 
west of Baldwinsville. One appeared to be going into a nest hole.


Extralimital
------------

     As of 7/9 3 DICKCISSELS, 2 males and 1 female, were still being seen at 
the Seneca Meadows Wetland Preserve north of Seneca Falls.
