Dave Nutter and I went to Montezuma and Savannah today. Highlights are as
follows:
On Tow Path Road, we saw LINCOLN'S, WHITE-CROWNED, WHITE-THROATED, and SONG
SPARROWS.
Looking at Knox Marsellus from Tow Path, we saw a FRANKLIN'S GULL alone on
the mud flats, TRUMPETER SWANS, six SANDHILL CRANES, t
While driving along this afternoon we noticed a female kestrel holding a
small snake as she sat on a wire. Later she flew to a pole with the snake
in her talons. We had not considered that snakes would be part of their
diet. Snake was about 6 in long we guess.

It was birdy out there this morning, by October standards. Lots of
Ruby-crowned Kinglets and White-throated Sparrows, smaller numbers of
Blue-headed Vireos and Golden-crowned Kinglets, one Winter Wren. I also had
a small influx of warblers this morning, with a NORTHERN PARULA at the
"Frog Barn" (91

One adult and one juvie Bald Eaglet checking out the action off Elm Beach
in Ovid just now. Junior took a few desultory dives at the adult, but it
looked like a teenager just harassing his-or-her parent.

On Monday Bill Watson and I visited Knox-Macellus and saw, among the numerous
Canada Geese and Ring-billed Gulls, 2 Blue phase plus 6 Snow Geese.
Additionally were Sandill Cranes, an immature Eage on the Mud Flats and 3
Trumpeter Swans. On Towpath Road we found Tony Shrimpton with his scope on
