I know that American Kestrels are declining across the state, however it
seems that Merlin reports are becoming more frequent. Is that just my
impression, or are Merlins not in trouble as Kestrels are? If not, is it
because they don't require cavities to nest, or because they seem to be more

Just a reminder. This day (Sunday March 8) is ‘Spring forward day’, i.e change
in day light saving timing. So make sure you don’t show up an hour later. Of
course these days people use their cell phones, which will automatically show
the correct(ed) timing.

In among the RB Herring Gulls on the frozen canal, there was at least 1
immature Iceland Gull. Viewed from Oak Island (south end of Oak St off rtes 5
20), about 4 PM Friday. The resident mallard flock (with a few domestic
varieties) was also there.
