Livia and I checked Myers Point this morning as we have most mornings. The
only birds of note were two COMMON TERNS on a piece of driftwood out on the
lake to the south. Monday, a young BONAPARTE'S GULL was on the spit. No
shorebirds to speak of since the weekend. A little later I ran out to the

I was watching an adult male Orchard Oriole singing along the circle at Myers
Point Park this morning, and I noticed something I hadn't before. When the male
sang, his black throat turned WHITE. When he sang some parts of his song the
throat feathers were spread, revealing their white bases. It
At noon, I heard a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO do 3 series of 6-8 single coo’s from
the exclosure area just south of the covered shelter on Wilson.
I was close enough by the third series to ensure myself it wasn’t a squirrel,
though the pacing and separation of series had already indicated that.
However, it shut up and didn't move while I served as a mosquito meal waiting
to get a visual or record a 4th series so I left while I still had the
strength.

In light of an offline conversation with T-H, I want to amend my observation to
Cuckoo sp. until someone gets a visual. He has come across Black-billed doing

Thanks.

There is a newish cedar waxwing nest just outside the lab of o main entrance,

Hi All,
I have a friend who has been watching a cedar waxwing nest. The nest is in a
cavity. He can see some moss and the birds have young. I guess I was thinking
they were late nesters. Wondering if one or both things are unusual.

On Monday evening I rushed from work to Myers and found no birders. It hadn't
occurred to me that the club picnic would be delayed by a mere tornado *watch*.
A few years back we had good entertainment as a thunderstorm walloped the
picnic, and the wind threatened to send our tablecloths,
