[cayugabirds-l] Elm Beach Road, Town of Romulus

2015-06-17 Thread Ellen Haith
With a rise of a couple of inches in the lake level at this site, the
Northern Rough-Winged Swallow has decided that, after all, she would prefer
to nest under the UPPER section of the dock!

[cayugabirds-l] Arnot Forest Prairie Warbler

2015-06-17 Thread lrumsey
There is a pair of Prairie Warblers singing near the top of the drive. Also for
those who may be interested there is a pair of Milbert's tortoiseshell
butterflies in the area as well.

I was at RH Treman SP Sunday afternoon watching a northern rough-winged swallow
fly in and out of one of the holes in the stone wall holding up the changing
room plateau, just downstream from the swimming area. Last year there was an
occupied hole high in the wall, just a few feet from the top (10 feet above
water level?). This year's hole was much lower, probably five feet above water
level. Based on some of the flash flood footage from youtube, it's very likely
this nest hole got inundated.
