[cayugabirds-l] Lansing Center Trail, Sun 1/3

2016-01-03 Thread Mark Chao
On Sunday at about 2:50 PM, I saw about eight big waves of SNOW GEESE
passing over the Lansing Center Trail. I counted about 1800 birds. Then I
called home. About five miles south, Miyoko and Tilden got the message and
bundled up in time to see all these birds streaming overhead a couple of
minutes later.

>From the Lansing Center Trail, I also saw a calling COMMON RAVEN and three
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. I looked for the Rough-legged Hawk and Northern Shrike
found in Lansing on the Christmas Bird Count, but didn’t find them.

Also, on Saturday at 5 PM, I saw the barrel-chested, round-headed,
beakless, doubly pointed silhouette of a PEREGRINE FALCON flying over Route
13 from the Stewart Park area toward downtown Ithaca.

[cayugabirds-l] Big Snow Goose movement this afternoon

2016-01-03 Thread Scott Haber
Several huge skeins of Snow Geese were flying high and southbound over the
Village of Lansing around 3PM today.

My conservative estimate was about 4,000 individuals, but more may be
coming.

[cayugabirds-l] Ross's Geese, Ferguson Road, Dryden

2016-01-03 Thread Jay McGowan
Found by Kevin McGowan an hour ago, two adult ROSS'S GEESE were still
present a few minutes ago in a flock of a little over 250 Snow Geese mixed
in with several thousand Canada Geese in a cornfield on the north side of
Ferguson Road just east of the intersection with Irish Settlement Road. The
two Ross's were together near the east end of the flock.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Big Snow Goose movement this afternoon

2016-01-03 Thread marsha kardon
At 2:30pm today there were, I'm guessing very roughly, about 700 snow geese
in the field across from 222 Bundy Road on west hill in Ithaca. As I
walked by about half of them flew up and circled, then settled again. So
beautiful! Marsha Kardon
