Re: [cayugabirds-l] White-throated Sparrows

2016-04-26 Thread Peter
Interesting.
I also had a white-crowned at my feeder in the Phelps, NY area.
And white throats of both flavors.

[cayugabirds-l] rainy walk around Sapsucker

2016-04-26 Thread cl...@juno.com
In the midst of a volunteer training session at the Ornithology Lab this
morning we watched a double-crested cormorant percching in the rain in the
center of the pond. Later, on a very fast walk around the main pond, we had
great looks at a pileated woodpecker, a pair of Eastern towhees, a possible
Cooper's Hawk, and heard a wood duck. Also present were an array of emerging
wildflowers - marsh marigold, trilium, troutlily, May apples, and skunk cabbage
among others.

There was a substantial fallout of Ruby-crowned Kinglets around my place this
morning (we saw about 30, and heard more). Didn't seem like there was much else
- a few Yellow-rumps - but now we've got a Baltimore Oriole.

RE: [cayugabirds-l] White-thr. Sparrows/Thrasher/Towhee/loons

2016-04-26 Thread Donna Lee Scott
I had 6 WHITE THROATED SPARROWS in front yard, on-ground bird seed area,
yesterday. Hear them in woods around here every day and see some every day.
Also, BROWN THRASHER has visited the ground food.

This morning on the woods side of the house I heard a joyous EASTERN TOWHEE
drinking his tea-ea-ea…, while 2 COMMON LOONS called to each other on Cayuga
Lake on other side of house! What a way to greet the day.

[cayugabirds-l] Sapsucker Woods Black-throated Blue Warbler

2016-04-26 Thread Wesley M. Hochachka
The best bird from my morning commute through Sapsucker Woods was a nice
male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER near the western edge of the big pond, to the
southwest of the Sherwood Platform. See this eBird checklist for more specific
information:

http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S29214929

There were also many YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERs and a YELLOW WARBLER flying about
in the shrubs and cattails in the Fuller Wetland area.
