*New York July 15 2019 NYSY 07. 15. 19 Hotline: Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert To report by email: brinjoseph AT yahoo DOT com Reporting upstate counties: Onondaga, Oswego, Madison, Oneida, Herkimer, Cayuga, Montezuma Wildlife Refuge and Montezuma Wetlands Complex Compiled: July 15 at 2:00 p.m. Compiler: Joseph Brin Onondaga Audubon Homepage: www.onondagaaudubon.org Greetings: This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of July 08, 2019 Highlights: SANDHILL CRANE COMMON GALLINULE BLACK TERN PEREGRINE FALCON WHIMBREL PECTORAL SANDPIPER FISH CROW SEDGE WREN CERULEAN WARBLER GRASSHOPPER SPARROW Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ Shorebirds are starting to show up at the complex. 8 of the more common species were noted this week. 7/13: 4 CERULEAN WARBLERS were found at the forested area of Armitage Road. 7/15: 3 SANDHILL CRANES, 24 BLACK TERNS, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and a FISH CROW were all found at the Sandhill Crane Unit south of VanDyne Spoor Road. Cayuga County ------------ 7/12: A WHIMBREL was seen at West Barrier Bar Park in Fair Haven. Onondaga County ------------ 7/8: A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was found on the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake. 7/11: A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen on Jefferson Street in Syracuse. 7/14: 13 COMMON GALLINULES including 8 young were seen along the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake. A SEDGE WREN was found singing in the big field area east of 60 Road in Three Rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville. Madison County ------------ 7/15: A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was found on Mason Hill in Hamilton. Herkimer County ------------ 7/13: A FISH CROW was heard on Earl Road in Richfield Springs.
