Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
The last sighting of the ROSEATE SPOONBILL at Knox-Marsellus Marsh was 9/4.
8/30: an EURASIAN WIGEON was seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh and was seen
again on 9/4.
8/31: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen from East Road.
9/1: A WILSON’S PHALAROPE was seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh.
9/3: 2 BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. 8
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen at Guy Baldassarre Marsh.
9/4: 16 Shorebird species including AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, STILT
SANDPIPER, BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and both DOWITCHERS were
seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. Also seen were 2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS and 10
Warbler species. A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was seen at the forested area of
Armitage Road.
Cayuga County
9/5: 5 Shorebird species including 2 SANDERLINGS were seen at Fair Haven
State Park.
Onondaga County
8/30: 2 BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were seen at Oneida Shores Pard in Brewerton
and were seen through 9/2.
8/31: 9 LEAST BITTERNS were seen/heard at the Ladd Road Marsh near Oneida
Shores. A STILT SANDPIPER was found at Oneida Shores Park and was seen through
9/3. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen at the Ladd Road Marsh. 2 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS
were seen at the Split Rock Quarry in Fairmont.
9/5: A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was found at the Morgan Hill State Forest.
9/6: 2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS were seen on Kellog Road in Three Rivers WMA
north of Baldwinsville.
Oswego County
8/30: A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen at the Deer Creek Marsh on Lake Ontario
north of Sandy Pond.12 Shorebird species including RED KNOT, STILT SANDPIPER,
BAIRD’S SANDPIPER and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet
on Lake Ontario.
8/31: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen at the Deer Creek Marsh.
9/3: A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was see at the Sandy Pond beach area. 8
Shorebird species including RED KNOT and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were seen at the
Sandy Pond Outlet.
Madison County
8/31: A GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was found at Peterson Hollow Road near
Erieville.
9/3: An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen on Ditchbank Road north of Canastota.
9/5: A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was seen on Ditchbank Road.
Oneida County
8/31: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Clinton.
9/2: A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen in the Lake Julia Preserve north of
Remson.
9/3: An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen st Spring Farms Nature Center
south of Clinton.
9/6: An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen on Kellog Street in Clinton.
Extralimital
A SWALLOW-TAILED KITE continues in Yates County. It was seen and
photographed today on Town Line Road west of Penn Yan.
