With local trails becoming snow-free on this warm day, my new knee and I
checked out the Dryden Lake linear trail this afternoon. The trail was quite
muddy and the birds scanty, but the highlight was a very handsome adult Bald
Eagle circling over the south end of the lake, near a stand of conife

Yesterday on Lower Lake Road, Livia and I found an apparent GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED x CANADA GOOSE hybrid. I've only seen this cross a few times,
so it was nice to see one at somewhat closer range and note the smaller

Besides seeing a large raft of Snow Geese on the water on the West side of the
lake, opposite LeVanna (ny rt. 90) this morning, I also saw a nice group of
just white ones in several vees fly right over me in Poplar Ridge on Rt. 34-B,
later in the morning! Gorgeous in the sun.

The flight of geese yesterday was amazing. I walked the Yorkies east on
Mt. Pleasant Road, around 11:30 on. At the top of the hill east past my
house you could see lines of geese both east and west, heading N. With
my binocs, I could make out lines of geese west of the Observatory and
to the
1000s on west side Cayuga Lake opposite LeVanna (NY Rt. 90)

This morning at Salt Point I heard and saw my first Killdeer of the year.
Then at Sapsucker Woods I heard and saw three Rusty Blackbirds. An
impressive flock of several thousand Red-winged Blackbirds flew over in
about three separate waves.
