[cayugabirds-l] Earth Day Birding Activities at Lighthouse Point (Jetty Woods)

2023-04-21 Thread Jody Enck
Hello birders,
Just a reminder that everyone is welcome to come down to Lighthouse Point
Woods tomorrow morning for some birding and to learn about our habitat
improvement work there. Please plan to come out just to gain information,
or bring your work gloves and join in the fun as we pull privet and put up
fencing to protect the native plants we are putting in the ground.

We'll meet at 10am at the pro shop for the city's Newman Golf Course at the
west end of Willow Ave. If you get there late, just walk in the dirt
access road along the left side of the golf course. We'll be about half
way down the woods trail. Note that another collaborating group called
Tree Up Tompkins also will be working in there near the entrance to the
woods. Stop and say hi to them, then continue down the trail for a bit
until you find where we are working. We will have binoculars to share if
you don't have any.

Thanks!
Jody

[cayugabirds-l] Paid internship opportunity

2023-04-21 Thread Candace E. Cornell
To my birding colleagues:

I'm writing to share news of a paid internship opportunity for young adults
this summer through the Cayuga Lake Watershed Internship Program WIP). I'm
attaching a general position description but we've now determined that we
could really use some help this season to provide more interactive and
engaging activities for our weekly Osprey Eco-Cruises. An intern would work
closely with us to learn about the objectives of these cruises and develop
material, as well as deliver it with the assistance of our Youth Crew
during the cruises.

Do you have any ability to spread the word about this? The extended
deadline is May 1st - rather soon!

Here is also a link with more information about the cooperative WIP:
https://www.discovercayugalake.org/watershed-internships

I'm happy to talk with you about this in more detail and can be reached on
my cell at 607-277-8257

*Thank you,*

2023-04-21 Thread Christopher T. Tessaglia-Hymes
We’ve had an excellent migration of Broad-winged Hawks at Mount Pleasant today
(at the Hartung-Boothroyd Observatory). Sizable kettles have come over, with
peak of 85 birds in one kettle already. More on the way!!

Sincerely,

[cayugabirds-l] Greater yellowlegs on Salmon Creek at Myers

2023-04-21 Thread Kevin C Packard
This morning (~9am) there was a greater yellowlegs foraging around a gravel
bar in the mouth of Salmon Creek, readily viewable from Myers. A nice flock of
Bonaparte's gulls and three caspian terns were also present.

 Cheers,

Kevin
