For the past few days I have been seeing two different flocks of Snow
Buntings on Mt Pleasant: one flock of 8 or 9 birds is usually at the edge
of the road where there is exposed vegetation in which they forage, the
other flock of more like 20-25 birds is usually in flight over the fields.
And
These remind me too that when I was downtown yesterday I heard my first
cardinal of the year singing (albeit a rather understated song and for
just a few seconds).
And yet, when I was in CT for Christmas (a bit farther south, it's true)
the titmice, chickadees, cardinals, WB Nuthatches and

I have one American Robin in my yard also. Pretty late for this species up
here on the mountain. The bird's been feeding on my winterberry and I am
about to go out and try to photograph it.
And I DID! Photos here:
Sorry for the late post, but Mt Pleasant yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon
hosted several Horned Larks as well as a largish flock of American Pipits
(great views of them foraging on the ground in the field opposite the

Hi all,
John Confer, who is no longer a Cayugabirds subscriber, asked me to

HI all,
On my afternoon walk today on somewhat breezy Mount Pleasant, I heard an
American Pipit in flight. A couple of days ago there was a sizable flock
of either American Pipits or Horned Larks way out in the fields, spooked

nonchalantly out into the road. I swerved and luckily it flew off
unharmed.

HI all,
I was wondering if anyone has noticed where Tree Swallows are roosting at

unable to find where they might be roosting, despite looking in most of
the spots they've used in past years. I hope to go up in the next
For those interested in keeping records of Ruby-throated Hummingbird
departure dates, I just noticed one at my feeder.

A hot walk up the mountain this morning turned up the following:
2 American Kestrels (there have usually been 4 up there of late)
Assorted Bobolinks in various spots flying and landing in the long grass
2 Eastern Kingbirds
Numerous Barn Swallows
12 Cedar Waxwings feeding on black cherry fruits

Hi all,
Carpal-tunnel surgery has banned me from camera, steering wheel, and too
much Photoshop for a while, so to keep from losing my mind I am now taking
TWO Mt Pleasant walks a day! Fortunately I can type one-handed.
Anyway, my morning walk today turned up two delights.
A flock of 40 or so
