Hey all.
Been out on Johnson Road (Town of Phelps) the last few nights in the hopes
of seeing the short-eared owls that commonly winter here. Tonight, at about
6:30 I was looking at my phone and about to head home when I was suddenly
startled by a very sharp "bark" very nearby. I looked up to see
Astrid we had over 100 sandhills on our survey yesterday (Friday) at Knox
Marcellus Marsh on the Montezuma Refuge near Seneca Falls, NY.
If past history is any indication, I expect still more to arrive before
they finally leave us for the winter. Last year's fall totals surpassed 300
birds!,
It is
Flock of 77 sandhill cranes in cornfield on route 89. Come off East Rd. and
take a right. As you climb hill the cranes are in a cut cornfield field on
right side of road. Best seen from top of hill. Be careful of traffic.

Hi folks.
Just an FYI in case you've been looking for a Wilson's Snipe this season or
want to see more of them. Jackie Bakker picked out 10 of them in various
spots in Larue's Lagoon today on our survey. One grouping had 4 birds in
it. Another had at least 3.
Good luck. Visitor Center pool had
LOTS of shorebirds this morning in the Visitor center pool!!
