[cayugabirds-l] Tufted Duck

2024-01-10 Thread William Baker
The Tufted Duck is still present off East Shore Park. I found it out from the
marina in the large mixed Aythya flock.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Red Tail Hawk appears to be wounded or poisoned

2022-10-06 Thread William Baker
On Sunday 10/2 there was a RTH that struck and shattered a second story window
in the DeWitt Bldg downtown, startling a number of people. It managed to fly
off but was clearly shaken. Perhaps this is the same bird.

be to check with the vendors who sell meat at local farmers markets and see

[cayugabirds-l] Moving a Robin nest?

2021-06-10 Thread William Baker
I have a work vehicle that I haven’t moved in almost 2 weeks. In that time
pair of Robins have decided to nest on top of one of the front tires. There are
already 3 eggs in the nest. I need to use the vehicle both days this weekend.
Does anyone have any suggestions about moving the nest? I am thinking of
creating a similar scenario right nest to the current location. A covered box
with a shelf at the same height as the nest is now and putting it just to one
side of the tire with the nest on it. I can maneuver my vehicle without hitting
the box later etc.

What are the odds of this working?

Thanks for any thoughts

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Non-bird: Lightening Bug

2021-05-22 Thread William Baker
While it’s a bit far afield- I was in Saratoga Spring earlier this week and
there where quite a few Lightening Bugs around both Wed and Thurs evenings.

And to add a bird note- I had my FOY Blackpoll this morning at the Ithaca
Farmers Market in between the pavilion and the water in the tall trees towards
the south end.
