[cayugabirds-l] Bald Eagle
While driving on NY 96, about 2 miles east of Spencer, a large bird swooped across above me at some 75 feet elevation. The very brief glimpse I had convinced me it was an adult bald eagle. [cayugabirds-l] Western grebe
I too scanned the southern end of Cayuga Lake around mid-day Tue, using a telescope, but saw no Western grebe. Several small flocks of Canada geese took off from the lake and were heading south. Is it normal for the lake to be so low this time of year? I confess I'm not able to interpret this chart; I could use some help. Thanks Bob GarrisonSpencer, NY + - Original Message - From: joe & Diana To: Cayuga Birds Sent: Tuesday, October 26, 2010 11:48 AM Subject: [cayugabirds-l] peregrine id Hi, Thanks to Don and Suzanne, we now know where the young Peregrine came from. It's pretty exciting to think of its journey and that the people who were a part of it know he is safe and has survived this far. Thanks for following through with the information. I'm sure we'll all enjoy it! [cayugabirds-l] Worms Again
I am re-sending this posting; apparently it did not go through 2/28/10 Several of our birds enjoy meal worms. Apparently there are differing forms of worms available, e.g. freeze dried, live, etc. I'm wondering how many choices there are and which are best choices and why. My main interest is to feed bluebirds and Carolina wrens. [cayugabirds-l] OOB, Strange Bird
OOB: There was a strange bird high in a tree in my backyard in Spencer, on 9/24; it moved around very little during the hour that I was watching. Through my telescope, it resembled a red-winged blackbird in terms of size, although the red patches on the side were considerably larger than those I've seen before on red-wings. The other puzzle was the distinctly forked tail, very long skinny forks sort of like those of a barn swallow. A second bird was nearby, but partially obscured by leaves. I would appreciate any thoughts.
